Are Your Intentions Authentic?

The new year is closing in on us quickly. With everything that has been happening in our nation and the world, are we being authentic in how we express ourselves coming into this new year? If you’re not sure, ask yourself: Are all these wonderful sentiments I'm posting on Facebook and elsewhere actually what I intend to do in this new year, or does it just make me feel good about myself to say them? Do I intend to be kind to others and put myself in their shoes, or am I really giving notice to everyone that I expect them to be kind to me and try walking in my shoes for once?

Does this sound negative to you? I'm sorry if it does, but it is always important to see if our blinders are in place when we give intention for anything, the new year being no exception. Are we blinding ourselves to our true intentions? Are we driven by our need to look good or feel good? Are we being lazy and letting others decide what we believe in? Are we being authentic?

Being authentic means checking your ego at the door and allowing your true passions to drive your intentions and actions. To quote Shakespeare: To thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man. This means that you can't  put on a different personality for different people. You cannot wear a different social mask in different social circles and still be authentic. For in being authentic, there is no mask.

I have been studying the human psyche and its wonderful and often frustrating journey for over four decades. It was only natural that my love of writing and teaching became part of this journey.

My writings are dedicated to those who are willing to search  outside the box for meaning in their lives, who are willing to shift their view of the world just enough to recognize they are unique expressions, and who are willing to do the inner work to improve their understanding of who they are.

I will read forever because it lets me visit in my mind the worlds that I will never be able to see; it helps me put away the stresses of the day and relax into the rhythm of the story before me; it lets me bring to the surface and experience without regrets those feelings I hide away; it lets me re-experience the thrill of first love through someone else's eyes; it keeps my mind juiced so that it will never desert me; it is always there for me even when there's no one else. I will read forever no matter whether it is print or digital because the words will always call to me. ~ A Sassy Scribbler
