Twice a month (2nd and 4th Tuesdays) we will discuss a single genre. You are welcome to share your experiences, your love or dislike of the genre discussed each month.
Did you know that the formal emergence of the classification of literary works into what we call genres began in 335 BC with Aristotle? Today, there are approximately 13 fiction genres and 17 nonfiction genres with which most of us are familiar. However, it is the subgenres that will make your head spin.
For example, did you know there are at least 33 subgenres of Science Fiction, 17 of Fantasy, 22 of Detective and Mystery, and 17 of Romance to name a few? Obviously, we won't delve into all those subgenres. We'll stay at the top levels, which doesn't mean you can't talk about the subgenres.
The first genre will appear on March 14 with a follow-up post on March 28.
